Fabric or Metal, Curtains or Blinds - pros and cons?
"These metal blinds are really great looking."
Windows represent an essential element of the house, and they require a lot of work, during the decorating process, but also when it comes to maintenance, privacy or lighting. Lately, decorating windows has become a delicate subject, especially for the homeowners who intend to adopt a minimalist, modern dcor. Why? The answer is simple. Persons who don't like curtains and consider them old fashioned have more options today, and there is no need for them to avoid neither this task nor leaving windows open for curious eyes. Regardless their shape, size or material, blinds are a convenient option, and sometimes, cheaper than curtains. There is no question that blinds provide great functionality, but you need to consider the style aspects as well. Therefore, before investing in blinds, think about what you need in terms of home design. Color, texture and size are three criteria you can use when purchasing blinds. Make sure you measure the windows properly in order to make sure the blinds provide full coverage of the glass surface and ensure privacy. If you want to keep your windows simple and have full access to natural light, there are several types of blinds that you can purchase:
- Roller blinds are very practical and they can be used for any room in the house. They are simple, fun and come in a variety of colors.
- Wooden/Metal Venetian blinds are very chic and they allow you to play with many wood/meal textures and colors.
- Bamboo / Wood weave blinds create a special environment, perhaps because they combine the Western and the Eastern influences. I recommend them for bedrooms, they look great.
- Used curtain rods have a great potential in case you are skilled with the sewing machine or you know someone who can help you create some new curtains of it.
- Clearance fabric may be your only chance to put your hands on exquisite curtain fabrics. However, check if they have enough material for your measurements. Clearances usually consist in smaller amounts of fabric.
- Get inspiration from design magazines, from the internet or by attending design shows. This way, you will find out about the latest trends, colors, and curtain designs and you can start applying ideas in a DYI project.
